About Sied y Coed Woods

Sied Y Coed Woodlands were planted in the 1960's, consisting of Douglas Fir and Norway Spruce, with the hut on site providing  a workshop and office for the Forestry Commission. Following this the land was sold in the early 90's to a private buyer, who restored the cabin, building small pathways and bridges and opening up clearings.

In February of 2022, Sied Y Coed Ltd was formed to manage the woodlands, and since this time the woods have undergone a transformation. Following the Damage of Storm Arwen (Nov 21) a significant number of the trees were blown over, as part of the clean up operation tracks were widened and bridges built, gaining access to areas of the woodland that had long been inaccessible.

Our Mill was ordered and built in the Summer of '22, with our first milled timber being used to construct the bridge and to build the Mill Shed. Our second felling licence came through in Nov 2022 allowing us to start production proper.

Our plan is, through a process known as 'continuous cover' felling to remove the majority of the larger trees, whilst allowing the natural regeneration of native species such as Oak, Rowan, and Hazel. Through continuous cover these will be able to establish whilst the plantation trees are removed over a long period.
